Canadian songstress to play Sanderson

On Thursday, October 14, singer/songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk will be hitting the stage at the Sanderson Centre to perform hits from her five albums, including her most recent release, Plain Jane. Kreviazuk is a two-time Juno award winner and multi-platinum selling artist whose hits include “Before You” and “Feels like Home.”

“Since I have five albums out now, when you go to a show of mine it’s kind of a mish-mash of different material,” Kreviazuk says.

Kreviazuk’s success not only comes from her vocal talent, but from her songwriting ability. She’s created songs for top artists like Faith Hill, Avril Lavigne and The Veronicas, and prides on her ability to “come at a song so that it has lots of meaning.”

For Kreviazuk, whose career has spanned over 15 years, performances nowadays mean a chance to relive the past – for her audience and herself.

“It’s nice to get on stage and sing hits like ‘Before You’ or ‘All I Can Do’ – those songs are always fun because people know them. But I also like to get up on stage and sing ‘Surrounded’ because it’s a hit, but it’s also a song that means so much to me.”

It’s surprising that with all the success enjoyed by her and her husband, Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, that Kreviazuk has been able to lead a relatively normal life.

“I feel bad for people who get too caught up in the fame and miss out on the lives of their kids and families,” she says. “It’s just not… real.”

The singer is on a short break from touring but will start back in Brantford before heading out west.

Tickets are $46 and can be purchased online at www.sandersoncentre.ca or through the Sanderson Centre box office at 519-758-8090.
