July 15, 2010 4:07 PM

Hundreds of jersey-clad fans stormed the Sanderson Centre theatre on Friday, June 5th for “Stocky Night in Canada,” a show headlined by famous geek director Kevin Smith. Presented on the heels of the first day of Hockeyfest, the massive theatre was nearly packed to the brim with a wide variety of fans, but mostly rowdy, sun-soaked street hockey players who had been playing all day in the 2nd annual Hockeyfest tournament alongside Kevin Smith and his pals from View Askew,...

Hockeyfest, Brantford go Guinness

July 15, 2010 4:07 PM

“We did it!” says an excited and proud Walter Gretzky at the 2010 Brantford Street Hockey Tournament. “The tournament has 205 teams registered and that’ll put us in the record books.”

The dream was lofty — Brantford wanted to beat the record for the most teams registered in a street hockey tournament set in British Columbia back in 2007. This is not an easy feat when you’re trying to put together an event with more than 200 teams and endless...

March 1, 2010 11:10 PM

Just over a year after being unceremoniously removed from the Barenaked Ladies after a much-publicized drug arrest, Steven Page certainly seems to be turning a new page in the novel of his life.

Supershammed, but blown away

Supertramp tribute band gives outstanding performance

February 25, 2010 3:39 PM

On February 20, Classic Albums Live presented a stellar performance of classic hits by Supertramp, including “The Logical Song,” “Bloody Well Right” and “School.” The Sanderson Centre was packed, the music was outstanding and one Sputnik writer was left questioning everything he knew to be true and right in the world.

When I was 11, my mom bought a kick-ass new stereo system. One of the very first albums she played (and I recall this vividly) was Crime of the...

Saige

February 6, 2010 10:33 PM

At a first glance, the downtown Hollywood club looks like any other: dark wooden floors, dim lighting, and a DJ playing Top 40 rap and pop. Scantily clad girls fill every corner; some wear skin-hugging latex dresses with their cleavage and belly buttons exposed, while others wear nothing at all.

Outside, two limousines in which two men wait roll up, licking their lips in anticipation. One of them, a black man with dreads, rubs the top of the limo and...

Suzie McNeil stops in at Sanderson

February 6, 2010 10:18 PM

When Suzie McNeil said her “fans are the most important thing,” she wasn’t kidding. On Friday, January 29, I headed to the Sanderson Centre to see my first Suzie McNeil concert.

I’m not a huge Suzie fan, but I cheered her on while she was battling her way through the hit show Rockstar: INXS and for that reason I was very curious to see if she could keep my interest the way she had on reality television. To my surprise...
